On the 28th of February, 2014 Partners Albania organized a round table to present its first Country Report aimed at monitoring the enabling environment for civil society in Albania. The Report, prepared within the framework of the BCSDN Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development, presents the findings of the forgoing monitoring of the enabling legal and practical environment for the development of civil society in Albania. On the 20th of February, representatives from the BCSDN Executive Office (Tanja Hafner Ademi, Biljana Stojanoska) and two of its member organisations (Dubravka Velat-Civic Initiatives, Damir Krkobabic-EHO) participated in the launch of the commencement of work on the 1st Serbian Government Strategy for enabling environment for CSDev in Belgrade, Serbia. A number of high-level government officials and ambassadors addressed around 400 participants at the event. The first year of the IPA FPA project was devoted to the promotion, discussion, and the start of implementation of objectives and 6 priorities set under the BCSDN Mid-term Strategy 2012-2014. Under Priority 1 (Monitoring) BCSDN, after consultations, adapted its Monitoring Matrix to country languages, laying out the ground for an extensive and inclusive (at least 630 respondents involved) monitoring exercise which saw the first 8 draft country monitoring reports being finalized towards the end of November, 2013. BCSDN, as a partner in the MAXCAP project (Maximizing the integration capacity of the European Union) led by Freie University Berlin, will be organising focus group discussions on EU Enlargement in Macedonia and Serbia in the course of February/March. The discussions will be held in the two capitals (Belgrade and Skopje) as well as one mid-sized town and one rural area in each of the countries. IDM is an independent, non-governmental organization, working to strengthen the civil society, analyse and improve Albania’s integration processes, and assist reforming and the consolidation of good governance and inclusive policy-making processes through expertise, innovative policy research, analysis and assessment-based policy options. RRPP is implemented by the University of Fribourg, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The Steering Committee for Civic Initiatives (GI) has appointed Maja Stojanović as the organizations new Executive Director. Maja Stojanović is a seasoned activist for human rights and joined Civic Initiatives in October, 2010. At Civic Initiatives she first worked as a Program Coordinator for the youth and then as the program director. Civic Initiatives will remain committed to the development and promotion of citizen participation as a key factor in democratization, human rights and the implementation of European values. After an extensive development and consultation process which included stakeholders from civil society, government offices for cooperation with civil society, and EU Delegations the DG Enlargement has finalised its Guidelines for Support to Civil Society in the Enlargement Countries for the period 2014-2020. The Guidelines include a set of objectives, results, and indicators for the EU support to civil society which will allow for the measurement of progress at country level as well across the enlargement region.
