The new Institut Alternativa publication “Southeast Europe 2020: Civil Society and Public Administration at a Joint Task” which aims to present the way in which CSOs in the Western Balkans, which are involved in areas of fight against corruption, judicial reform and provision of public services, can be included in the process of monitoring the implementation of the Development Strategy of Southeast Europe 2020 (SEE 2020). Since States do not have a monopoly on information, the extent and role of civil society in the monitoring of public policies and achieving strategic goals is even more important. A feature of the countries in transition is the inadequacy of official statistics, incomplete data that would enable decision-making based on evidence, and unreliability of officially presented data on the implementation of public policies. Civil society therefore needs to play its corrective role in relation to the relevant institutions, both on a national and regional level. The publication is available for download here.
