BCSDN member Civic Initiatives has published an analysis of the 2024 public calls issued by Serbia’s Ministry for Family Care and Demography, revealing serious transparency and accountability concerns in the allocation of public funds. Across four calls, around 176.7 million RSD were awarded to 75 organizations, with a notable share going to associations lacking visible activities, experience, or public presence. More than half of the funded projects have no publicly available information on implementation, while some recipients had no prior income or were established shortly before the calls. The analysis also points to links among beneficiaries, transfers of funds to newly created entities, and project budgets far exceeding previous revenues. Civic Initiatives warn that such practices undermine trust in civil society, disadvantage credible organizations, and raise questions about whether public funds are used in the public interest.
