In its 2020 Anticorruption Report, the Southeast Europe Leadership for Development and Integrity (SELDI) presents the needs and priority concerns for the origin of the corruption sources and provides a model for advancing governance integrity and squeezing corruption in the Western Balkans. Besides the region’s recent progress in curbing corruption and the adoption of anticorruption standards, the report claims that the challenges in the region persist. For example, the pressure at the national, sectoral, or institutional level and ineffective anticorruption policies; rising corruption pressure and acceptability of corruption among the citizens; weak implementation of the reforms to enhance the public administration integrity; and a strong influence of the executive and legislative power over judiciary are examples that continue contributing towards democratic backsliding in the Western Balkans.
