A new report on Good Practices of Civic Space Resilience explores how civil society in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia and Slovenia responds to democratic backsliding, political polarisation and growing legal, administrative and public pressure. Drawing on concrete country cases, the report shows that resilience goes beyond simply withstanding restrictions: it is the capacity to adapt, organise and continue defending democratic space under pressure. The practices demonstrate the importance of strategic communication, legal action, strong coalitions and networks, community mobilisation, digital and physical security, evidence-based advocacy and diversified funding. From rapid responses to attacks and disinformation to broad civic campaigns and legislative advocacy, the cases highlight how collective action can generate meaningful democratic outcomes. The report offers practical lessons for strengthening civil society’s ability to anticipate, withstand and respond to increasingly complex threats to civic space. Find the report here.
