Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency responsible for coordinating border management and migration-related operations at the EU’s external borders, has announced the composition of its renewed Consultative Forum on Fundamental Rights for the 2025–2028 period, bringing together international organisations and civil society actors working on human rights, migration, asylum, and rule of law issues. The Forum serves as an advisory body supporting the Agency in monitoring compliance with fundamental rights standards in its operations and policies. The renewed mandate comes amid continued scrutiny of migration governance, accountability mechanisms, and rights protections at EU borders. Civil society participation within the Forum remains particularly relevant in the context of transparency, independent monitoring, and safeguarding fundamental rights in EU external action. The developments also reflect the growing importance of structured civil society engagement within EU governance mechanisms, including in areas linked to enlargement, migration management, and rule of law standards affecting candidate countries and neighbouring regions.
