In the latest edition of the Global Standard Newsletter focused on Donors, Civic Space and Accountability, BCSDN’s Communications and Information Officer, Marija Vishinova, delivered a blogpost on the donors’ engagement and CSO accountability in the Balkans. In pursuing the network’s objectives, focused on strengthening CSOs’ capacities and their role during a shrinking civic space in the region, BCSDN has engaged in a meaningful dialogue with different stakeholders, including donors, to support efforts around CSO accountability. Enhanced CSO accountability contributes to effective management within an organization and strengthens CSO relationships with its constituencies, donors, and government, increasing public trust. International donors with operations in the region, such as the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and the European Commission, have provided substantial financial and technical support to CSOs during a period in which governments have adopted stricter regulations towards civil society. Therefore, CSO accountability has become a means for strengthening civil society capacities and contributed to the overall quality of democratic practices in the Balkans. Read more here.
