On 8th and 16th June 2021, the Global Standard for CSO Accountability organized two consecutive series of Donors-CSOs dialogues to discuss the role of accountability for civil society resilience, trust, and effectiveness. The conversations centered on how both CSOs and donors can support each other to ensure that accountability is a co-designed process, allowing each actor to play their role efficiently and shift the power towards the people they serve. Some of the main events’ takeaways are: Donors and CSOs should work towards the same goals; CSOs have the capacity and knowledge relevant to their context, and donors must facilitate the environment to put it into practice; CSOs need to be transferring resources to restore power; Donors need to step away from tied aid; Donors could do more to enable the environment for CSOs to self-define their own civic space; Positive narratives should be embraced, etc. The conversations resulted in knowledge gained on how further collaboration can shift the donor-grantee relationship and active donors’ support of the civil society.
