In April last year, 70 CSOs, in an open letter to the Government, urged that a new director should be appointed as soon as possible in order for the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society in Serbia to continue its work regularly. The UK government is receiving widespread condemnation for a new clause in grant agreements that will place restrictions on civil society organisations lobbying the government. Last week, 140 UK charities signed a joint letter to the UK Prime Minister David Cameron expressing their deep concern over the proposed clause, and the move has been strongly condemned by the global alliance of CSOs – CIVICUS. A new report by Brana (Dam), a coalition of 23 CSOs formed at the end of 2014 to monitor the transparency of recovery projects and international donations used in Bosnia after the floods, highlights the lack of transparency on use of reconstruction money. During 2015, Brana monitored the use of 380,320,238.29 KM (approx. EUR 194 mil), provided by donor organisations and Bosnian institutions for reconstruction. Out of this sum, 195 million KM (approx. Charities have lost more than EUR 4.87bn in grants from government over the last decade and, at the continued rate of decline, there will no government grant money for charities by the next general election.
