The European Commission has presented its proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034, introducing a restructured funding model with potential implications for the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR). While macroregional strategies are not explicitly mentioned, the new structure of €865 billion under National and Regional Partnership Plans aligns with EUSAIR priorities such as sustainable development, cooperation, and cohesion. The new framework is designed to strengthen prosperity, security, and independence, with greater flexibility to respond to crises and simplified programmes to make funding more accessible. A central feature is the introduction of National and Regional Partnership Plans, which will implement cohesion and agricultural policy through locally tailored investments. EUSAIR sees this as an opportunity to embed macroregional principles in the final MFF and refers stakeholders to the report “EUSAIR Perspective on the Role of Macro-regional Cooperation in the Future Cohesion Policy”.
