The stagnation of official development assistance (ODA) for gender equality is a major concern. Recent analysis reveals that, both in Sweden and globally, the proportion of aid dedicated to gender equality has stalled, which directly impacts the ability of civil society organizations to conduct their work. This lack of funding momentum coincides with a global democratic decline and increased challenges to women’s rights, creating a hostile environment for progress. The stagnation of funding is a significant barrier to achieving the UN’s Agenda 2030 goal for gender equality and has serious consequences for civil society’s ability to drive positive change, combat poverty, and reduce social violence.
