BCSDN strongly advocates for increased funding within the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme. CERV is vital for empowering grassroots civil society, defending threatened values, supporting marginalized groups, and promoting democratic participation, thus safeguarding civic freedoms. Despite its significant impact, CERV’s current budget is insufficient. As MFF preparations advance, BCSDN calls for a more robust and sustainable funding approach. A substantial investment in civil society through programs like CERV is not merely a budgetary allocation; it is an essential strategy for preserving and expanding civic space, which is fundamental for a healthy European democracy.
