On 11-12 June, the International Conference on Freedom of Association took place in Istanbul, organized by BCSDN member TÜSEV and STGM. Experts from Turkey, Europe, the Balkans, and the USA discussed global laws affecting civic space and civil society’s responses to evolving challenges. During the session “Global Civil Society Agenda and the Role of International Organizations in Safeguarding Civil Society”, BCSDN Executive Director Ms. Biljana Spasovska shared insights into the multifaceted challenges regarding Freedom of Association in the Western Balkans. Drawing from BCSDN’s extensive monitoring of the civil society enabling environment, she emphasized the importance of joint evidence-based advocacy, expert exchange, and peer learning among members. Her presentation highlighted how BCSDN’s work serves as a critical resource for CSOs aiming to navigate and address these challenges effectively.
