The Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government in Serbia published the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance. The public debate on the document will remain open until 16 June 2021. In response, a group of CSOs in the Coalition for Freedom of Access to Information, the Coalition for Access to Justice, the Coalition for Freedom of the Media, and the National Convention on the European Union reflect that certain solutions from the Draft Law are unacceptable and reduce the current level of citizens’ access to information. They further claim that the Law does not provide solutions to some of the biggest problems in exercising the right. For these reasons, they invite all organizations, professional associations, activists, media, and individuals to participate in the public debate process actively, submit their comments and suggestions, and help them preserve and improve the right to access information of public importance.
