BCSDN will conduct a targeted advocacy visit to Brussels from 3–6 March to engage EU institutions at a pivotal moment for the Union’s emerging democracy and funding frameworks. As the EU develops the Civil Society Strategy, the European Democracy Shield, and the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), these initiatives will shape civic space and support for civil society in enlargement countries. The visit will draw on evidence from our Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Civil Society Environment and BCSDN’s recent policy brief, which sets out recommendations for embedding civil society participation, protection, and sustainable funding as enforceable elements of the accession process. Meetings with the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, and other stakeholders will focus on safeguards for meaningful participation and support for independent civic actors in the Western Balkans and Türkiye.
