The European Union System for an Enabling Environment for civil society (EU SEE) project has released the first batch of its Country Focus Reports, offering detailed, evidence-based insights into the conditions in which civil society operates across 86 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, the Americas and the Caribbean. Rather than ranking countries or comparing them, these reports aim to present a nuanced understanding of local realities and to support context-specific advocacy efforts. Developed through a collaborative process involving grassroots organisers, policy experts, and representatives from marginalized communities, the reports provide a space for civil society leaders to reflect on their operating environments in a structured and inclusive way. The initiative extends beyond capital cities to include voices from rural areas, diverse identities, and non-traditional civil society organisations, such as grassroots movements and social initiatives.
