North Macedonia has become the first country to receive pre-financing under the EU’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, securing a total of €52.2 million to kickstart reforms outlined in its approved Reform Agenda. Of this amount, €24.5 million will be channelled directly into the state budget to support priority reforms, while €28 million will be allocated through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for infrastructure development. The broader package worth €750.4 million through 2027 will target key areas such as public administration, rule of law, anti-corruption, decarbonisation, digitalisation, and human capital. This pre-financing marks a milestone in operationalising the new Reform and Growth Facility for the Western Balkans, a €6 billion performance-based instrument designed to accelerate EU integration through socio-economic convergence and gradual access to the single market. Each country’s access is conditioned on the successful implementation of its Reform Agenda, approved following European Commission and Council assessment. Read more here.
