VMRO-DPMNE, known for its nationalist stance and attacks on civil society during past governance, secured victories in the last elections. The party capitalized on public frustration over slow EU negotiations, promising to halt further concessions. However, this return to power raises concerns about democratic backsliding and a return to a politics of division. Amidst polarizing disinformation campaigns and lingering grievances, civil society faces renewed challenges in defending civic freedoms.
