North Macedonia’s EU accession process faces significant hurdles, including unresolved bilateral disputes, political instability, and waning public support. Despite these challenges, the country remains driven by the prospects of economic prosperity and regional stability. Declining public support reflects frustrations with slow progress and perceived EU ambivalence. Compounding these issues are broader regional crises and the rise of right-wing nationalism. Nonetheless, optimism persists due to the country’s alignment with EU legislation and the potential benefits of integration. Progress in reforms and negotiation chapters, particularly in justice and democracy, is essential. Both North Macedonia and the EU must demonstrate commitment to a fair, merit-based accession process, ensuring that the journey towards EU membership remains viable and beneficial for all involved.
