Catalyst Balkans and BCSDN present the third edition of “Mapping Donors in the Western Balkans”. The report provides valuable insights into the current donor landscape, focusing on bilateral, multilateral, and private foundations, and corporate donors supporting civil society. Key questions addressed include the donors’ activity levels, areas of focus, and interactions with funded organizations. The research highlights challenges faced by civil society, such as shrinking civic space and government restrictions, emphasizing the need for new funding mechanisms. Despite limitations in data collection, the study suggests increased uncertainty in donor strategies and calls for enhanced transparency, improved coordination, and a shift toward direct support for CSOs. The findings highlight the importance of adapting to geopolitical changes and fostering digital transformation within the donor community and civil society. Read more here.
