Civil Society Europe has issued the Civil Society State of the Union report, directed at EU institutions and Member States. The report focuses on strengthening democracy, fundamental rights, and the civic space within the European Union. It presents a collective vision from civil society and vital recommendations to promote a more democratic, socially equitable, and environmentally responsible EU. We welcome the recommendation for adding a standalone pillar on an enabling environment for civil society and HRDs in the EC’s annual Rule of Law Reports along with that the methodology for assessing civic space should be co-created with civil society and build on benchmarking mechanisms already used by the EC. This could also include the BCSDN Monitoring Matrix, which is applied in the enlargement region. Read more here.
