On 1-3 March, BCSDN is organizing a workshop and advocacy event in Brussels. The first meeting, co-organized and hosted by the EU DG Near, will brief the EC representatives about the civil society state of play in the Western Balkans and Türkiye and discuss with leading CSOs from the region how the EU could support the civil society to contribute more effectively to strengthening the rule of law, that leads to more accountable governance and more open and deeper democracies. On 2 March, on the other hand, during the hybrid event: “Back to the Roots of Democracy: Empowering civil society in the EU, Western Balkans and Türkiye”, co-hosted and organized by the Greens in the EP, we will revive the discussion on how and why the EU accession should further empower the civil society to strengthen the democracies in the region and to restore EU’s credibility.
