In addition to the pressures on the opposition, media, and civil activists after the 2016 coup in Turkey, the trend of targeting lawyers – defending the activists – increased. Since this period, the attacks on lawyers have become institutionalized and systematic. Lawyers are investigated, detained, and they no longer feel safe and free when defending their clients in courtrooms or police stations and practice their profession in a healthy democracy. The article stresses the importance of civil society involvement in providing moral and practical support, and their reminding to the Turkish government that they continuously observe the state of the defenders in the country.
