In its latest report, CIVICUS evokes 10 years of civil society activity and highlights vital concepts of civil society actions in 2021 and beyond. The report draws from a number of in-depth interviews and online consultations with civil society activists, leaders, and experts, who shared their civil society stories. The report is based on the platform’s research, analysis, advocacy, and the work of CIVCUS members, networks, and partners, notably the CIVICUS Monitor, for which process of providing comparative research updates on the current state of basic human freedoms in the Balkans, contributes BCSDN, as well. The report focuses on: the global struggle for racial justice; challenging exclusion and claiming rights; demands for economic and environmental justice; democracy under the pandemic; and civil society in the international arena, as five key areas of civil society action during 2020.
