In December 2024, Hackcorruption, a global initiative by Accountability Lab, brought together diverse participants from the Balkans, including a deputy mayor and an engineering student, journalists, academics, public servants, technologists, lawyers, and more to develop tech tools aimed at combating corruption. Held in Albania, the event explored how technology can address accountability gaps and support systemic integrity. With the backing of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and Development Gateway, discussions highlighted the role of tech in promoting transparency and business integrity. Participants developed projects targeting various sectors, such as energy, procurement, and the judicial system. The event emphasized that while tech isn’t a silver bullet, it can enhance ongoing efforts. By May 2025, the teams will refine their tools to support civil society, governments, and citizens, aiming for tangible anti-corruption outcomes across the region. Read more here.
