Around 10,000 protesters gathered in Ljubljana’s Preseren Square for the “All-Slovenian uprising” anti-government protest, asking for termination of the rule of the current prime minister and the right-wing government, urging for snap elections. The protesters blamed the Slovenian prime minister for using the coronavirus pandemic to restrict freedoms, neglect social dialogue, attack the media, and spread hatred. Protesters accused police of using unbalanced force against peaceful demonstrators. The local media reported that the protesters filed a criminal charge and called on the human rights Ombudsman to investigate testified violations. The police on the other hand, denounced these accusations. Anti-government protests have continued for more than a year in Slovenia, even in a period of curfews and movement restrictions during the pandemic.
