The Regional Government & Civil Society Forum on AML/CTF processes co-organized by the Financial Intelligence Office of the Finance Ministry of R. Macedonia, ECNL, and the Association Konekt gathered 90 participants from 22 jurisdictions representing governments, the Financial Action Task Force regional body Moneyval, banks, and NPOs. The speakers and the participants pointed the impact of the AML / CFT processes on the non-profit sector, alluding that multiple resources and governments’ expertise is required to ensure adequate and risk-based implementation of applicable international standards. The event also reflected that triangulation between governments, non-profits, and banks demands true partnership to avoid the negative consequences of the measures implemented. ECNL and Konekt commit to engaging with the governments and ensure partnerships between the sectors in AML/CFT risk assessment processes. As they stress, only by respecting human rights, fundamental freedoms, and risk-based approaches, the countries can achieve effective and sustainable counter-terrorism and anti-money laundering results.
