Human rights activist Sofija Todorović has been detained multiple times by Serbian border police, most recently on her way to receive the Aachen Peace Prize in Germany. The detentions, often lasting up to four hours, are attributed to a “detailed border inspection,” but the Youth Initiative for Human Rights argues that it constitutes arbitrary deprivation of liberty. Todorović’s repeated detentions, along with activist Jovana Radosavljević’s similar experiences, signal targeted harassment of human rights defenders. Both activists work on Serbia-Kosovo relations, contributing to reconciliation efforts. NGOs and Serbia’s National Convention on the European Union (NKEU) have condemned Serbia’s “undesirables” list, seeing it as an intimidation tactic aimed at silencing government critics.
