A case study delivered by the Program Director of BCSDN’s member Civic Initiatives, Bojana Selakovic, and published by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, reveals the operating environment of social actors who expressed critical views of Serbia’s current political and social situation worsened significantly in 2020. The pandemic’s circumstances have contributed to the further polarization of society, the spread of inflammatory and discriminatory rhetoric, and the rise of extremism against CSOs. The organizations have been imposed to a continuous smear campaign by individuals or groups close to the ruling party. Physical attacks on individual activists have been reported. The “List” case is listed as the strongest institutional pressure on civil society delivered by abusing the legal powers of the Administration for the Prevention of Money Laundering. Read more here.
