In the latest analysis, BCSDN member Civic Initiatives and local media associations urge the Serbian Ministry of Justice to withdraw the Draft Law on Civil Procedure. In a period of SLAPP lawsuits against media, and when private companies close to the authorities are demanding large sums for critical reporting, this Law could lead to the extinction of local media, similarly to the 90’s Law on Information. The proposed amendments proclaim that the parties in the procedure are denied to access to the court if they do not pay the entire amount of the court fee within eight days. On this matter, more than 80 Serbian CSOs appealed to the Ministry of Justice to urgently withdraw from the procedure the proposed Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Civil Procedure due to numerous omissions, both in the manner of its drafting and in the text of legal solutions.
