On the13th June, Tanja Hafner Ademi, the Executive Director, presented BCSDN’s Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Environment for CSDev at the 29th Meeting of the Western Balkans(WB) Contact Group in the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Members of the Contact Group, consisting of representatives of organized civil society (CSOs, trade unions and employers) in EU MS, confirmed the usefulness of such a mechanism and gave specific suggestions. Importance of improving cooperation between CSOs and social partners in the region was stressed, esp. on issues of common concern such as labor rights.The work undertaken with the matrix and following monitoring work can inspire development of similar mechanism for social partners or inclusion of social dialogue in the matrix. The Contact Group encouraged for the Matrix to be shared with social partners in countries and work with them on common issues. The meeting also discussed the Contact Group’s work plan on WB for the next 2 years and situation in the region in light of the EC Spring reports on Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia and latest events.
