Episode: CSO, Interrupted: Lost in the Veto(s) – The long way to EU of North Macedonia
Interlocutors: Simonida Kacarska – European Policy Institute (EPI); Aleksandar Krzhalovski – Macedonian Center for International Cooperation
One good-neighbor agreement followed by three consecutive vetoes and 17 years after North Macedonia began concrete steps on the road to European integration, the country is in the process of implosion from internal turmoil over the setting and crossing of red lines.
In this episode of Explaining Western Balkans, we will discuss the role of civil society in dealing with the ongoing polarization of society concerning the so-called French proposal – as a destabilizing factor. Civic space and its (inp)possibility from consolidation and how to protect civic space from narrowing, as well as regarding fears and hopes, are part of the topics we covered with Simonida Kacarska from EPI and Aleksandar Krzhalovski from MCIC.
