The OECD-DAC convened at high level in Paris on 30 and 31 October to discuss about a range of issues of particular importance for international development, such as how to enhance the engagement of private sector in development, how donors can improve effectiveness of their development actions, and about the consequences of discontinuing ODA to countries that are not entitled to receive it any longer. In a move to better promote development cooperation and policy coherence for sustainable development through inclusive dialogues, the DAC concretised its promise by finally welcoming civil society as participants to its most recent High Level Meeting. A huge group of CSOs in programming and service delivery are directly contributing to the achievement of the SDGs, and whether these groups get funds by development cooperation or not, service-delivery for development is affected by development cooperation policies made at the global level. In order to ensure that financing not only flows, but is also aligned with effective development cooperation principles and human rights obligations, increased engagement on international development cooperation and DAC activities is becoming more crucial.
