The Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) has published Civil Society in Numbers 2025, analysing the financial, economic and social position of the 100 largest CSOs in North Macedonia based on financial accounts for 2023–2025 and data from the registry of active organisations. The 100 organisations generated combined revenues of approximately EUR 71.7 million in 2025 and employed 703 people, but revenue growth slowed sharply from 10.2% in 2023–2024 to only 2.2% in 2024–2025, while employment fell by 16.8%, from 845 to 703 jobs. The report also identifies pronounced geographic concentration: 88 of the 100 organisations are based in the Skopje region, which accounts for 90.2% of their combined revenues. Wider registry data point to fragility among smaller organisations: following the June 2026 registry update, 841 organisations moved from active to inactive status, while almost one third of the 530 non-sport CSOs registered during 2025 had already become inactive. The publication recommends greater geographic diversification and multiannual and institutional funding by donors, more diversified income and reserves among CSOs, and predictable and transparent public funding and improved registry classifications by the state.
