The SafeJournalists Network condemns the March 9th attack on journalist Dušanka Pejović from RTCG in Podgorica, where she was verbally assaulted and threatened outside her home. The attacker was swiftly arrested, and authorities confirmed the attack was linked to her journalistic work. While welcoming the police’s prompt response, SafeJournalists calls for a swift conviction and stresses that attacks on journalists are unacceptable in any democracy. The growing targeting of women journalists is especially alarming, with 11 out of 24 recorded attacks in Montenegro affecting women. Standing in solidarity with the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro, they urge authorities to strengthen legal protections and ensure a safer environment for journalists. Press freedom is fundamental to democracy, and such attacks must not be tolerated. The SafeJournalists Network will inform national and international stakeholders about these concerning developments.
