The regional report on enabling environment for CSO development has been published just a few days ago by BCSDN, finding that the enabling environment for civil society development in the Western Balkans and Turkey is lacking. The report analyzed the legal framework, political environment, financial sustainability, and institutional infrastructure of civil society in the region and found that many challenges still exist. These include a lack of government- CSO cooperation and a political will to engage with civil society in essential public policy and decision-making processes, restrictions on civic space, and inadequate funding. The report recommends a range of measures to improve the enabling environment for civil society, including the strengthening of legal frameworks, the development of sustainable funding mechanisms, and greater collaboration between civil society and government. The findings highlight the need for continued efforts to support civil society in the region to ensure that it can contribute to social and democratic progress. Read more here.
