Members of the European Parliament from the Greens/EFA and Renew Europe groups, Vladimir Prebilič and Sandro Gozi, have called on the European Commission to urgently respond to the serious deterioration of the rule of law and democratic standards in Serbia. In a letter addressed to Ursula von der Leyen, they condemn recent police actions targeting the University of Belgrade, warning that these undermine institutional autonomy and aim to intimidate critical voices. They also denounce statements by the Minister of Information suggesting the use of force against students. The MEPs express support for ongoing student protests and call for free and fair elections, stressing that no EU funds should be disbursed to Serbia until concrete and verifiable reforms are implemented, particularly regarding the voter registry and the proper functioning of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).
