Against a backdrop of shrinking civic space and growing corporate pressure, Members of the European Parliament from across the political spectrum, including Renew Europe, the Socialists and Democrats, the Greens/EFA, the EPP, and The Left — have launched a Manifesto on Civil Society. Through the Interest Group on Civil Society, MEPs pledge to support, protect, and meaningfully engage with CSOs, reaffirming their essential role in shaping democratic debate on policy issues. As per the Manifesto, there can be no democratic future for Europe without a vibrant and independent civil society and sends a clear message to those seeking to silence civic voices that the sector has broad cross-party backing. It sets out key commitments to safeguard the independence of CSOs and fundamental rights, strengthen recognition and support for the sector, and ensure civil society’s structural participation in EU policymaking.
