The Civil Liberties Union for Europe (Liberties) has launched a new Civic Space Tracker, a digital tool for monitoring legal threats to civic space across the EU and responses by institutions and civil society. At launch, the database contains nearly 70 documents covering developments in 21 EU Member States and will be continuously updated. The Tracker covers measures affecting freedom of expression and access to information, association, assembly and other rights relevant to civic participation. Users can search by country and filter developments by type of government action, rights affected, justification and date, while individual entries provide information on the measure and relevant institutional, civil society and legal responses. Designed for civil society, policymakers, academics and lawyers, the tool aims to help identify patterns and compare responses to similar civic space restrictions across countries. Read more here.
