A new study by Metamorphosis examines how the EU Digital Services Act (DSA) could impact civil society organizations and investigative journalists in North Macedonia. As the country continues aligning with European standards, the DSA introduces stricter rules for content moderation, algorithm transparency, and the accountability of digital platforms. The research explores how civil society actors and journalists perceive and experience these changes, focusing on concerns around mechanisms like “Trusted Flaggers” and Digital Service Coordinators. The findings point to growing challenges in the digital space, and the results suggest that, without fair and transparent implementation, the DSA could unintentionally restrict the very freedoms it aims to protect.
