From 12 to 14 September, the European Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ENCL) organized the 2022 Meeting of Global Expert Hub on AML/CFT. BCSDN’s Acting Executive Director, Anja Bosilkova-Antovska, participated at the event, together with several of the BCSDN members – partners of the WBT AML/CFT Expert Hub.
Around 70 CSOs and activists from 45 countries gathered for 3 days to reconnect and strengthen their responses to AML/CFT-inspired restrictions on civic freedoms. Activists discussed key needs, lessons learned and suggestions for the ongoing revision of key FATF standards, methodology and guidance documents. In addition, activists discussed emerging trends and issues of the use of digital technology for AML/CFT purposes and its impact on their work, including FinTech, biometrics surveillance, as well as online content moderation.
As part of the workshop, BCSDN and ECNL organized the first in-person regional coordination meeting of the WBT AML/CFT Expert Hub, whose main aim was to enable a closer regional exchange to identify common challenges and concretize a regional action plan.
