More than 200 European CSOs, including BCSDN, have joined a statement expressing serious concern over the European Commission’s decision to terminate operating funding for the European Network Against Racism (ENAR), putting the organisation at risk of closure by the end of 2026. As Europe’s largest anti-racism network, bringing together more than 140 organisations, ENAR has played a significant role in shaping EU anti-discrimination policies, advancing racial equality and supporting grassroots organisations. Despite successfully passing the initial grant evaluation, ENAR was subsequently denied funding for 2026–2028, a decision it is now challenging through legal proceedings. The signatories warn that the loss of core funding for such an established network raises broader concerns about the EU’s commitment to supporting independent civil society, particularly amid growing pressures on fundamental rights. They expressed solidarity with ENAR and highlighted the consequences for the sustainability of organisations defending equality, democracy and human rights across Europe.  Read more here.
