The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) hosted the annual Civil Society Week, gathering over 800 representatives from CSOs and youth groups to discuss the future of the EU and the upcoming elections. The key messages included a call for more resilient democracies and youth involvement, combatting misinformation, prioritizing an economy that works for people and the planet, and strengthening the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI). Participants urged for robust legal frameworks to tackle misinformation, a shift towards a more holistic economic model, empowerment of youth in policy-making, and the need for structured civil dialogue to enhance democracy. Recommendations from the event will be incorporated into an EESC resolution, outlining civil society’s expectations for the next European Parliament and Commission, with a focus on building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Europe.
