The European Commission has launched public consultations on the upcoming EU Civil Society Strategy, to be open for input from 13 June to 5 September 2025. The EU Civil Society Strategy will provide a comprehensive framework for action at EU and Member State level, aimed to protect, empower, and strengthen engagement with civi society. The Strategy will focus on strengthening meaningful engagement and providing support to all civil society actors, whilst including specific actions to address the shrinking civic space for CSOs and human rights defenders active in promoting and protecting EU values. It will identify the needs and challenges faced by civil society actors and map measures currently in place that aim to engage in dialogue with and protect them, all the while recognising their important contribution across all EU policy areas. Civic actors across Europe are invited to share their views on how to help the Commission shape a stronger future for civil society across the continent, ensuring the Strategy reflects real-time needs and challenges of civil society representatives on the ground.
