The consultation on the first-ever EU Civil Society Strategy is now closed, and BCSDN is proud to have submitted its contribution, endorsed by 107 other CSOs in the region and beyond. This strong collective backing sends a clear message: civil society across the Enlargement region and beyond is united in calling for a coherent, ambitious, and protective framework for civic space in Europe. But this is not the end of the process. The European Commission will now begin developing the Strategy, and the coming months will be decisive in determining whether it delivers on its promise. For the Strategy to be effective, it must offer a clear vision for civil society as a cornerstone of democracy, provide sustained and flexible support to organisations, guarantee meaningful civil dialogue and participation, and safeguard civic space and human rights defenders across the Union and in accession countries alike. Together with our members and partners, we remain committed to making sure the Strategy reflects these priorities and becomes a true turning point for protecting and empowering civil society.
