62 CSOs and global networks have distributed an open letter expressing their concerns on the design, consultations, and establishment of the inadequate OECD Debt Transparency Initiative (DTI). The DTI was first announced by the G20 in 2020 to improve transparency in low-income countries, designed around the Institute of International Finance (IIF) Voluntary Principles on Debt Transparency. The IIF and its members have been active in the initiative’s design, whereas CSOs and borrowing countries have not been involved in the process. The signatories are urging the OECD to fix the lack of the initiative. Among the requirements, they further state that the instrument should also include the participation of governments and stakeholders from the Global South; inclusion of all debt instruments, etc. Read more here.
