An international fact-finding mission will assess press freedom and journalist safety in Croatia from 9-20 September. Organized by Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) partners, including ARTICLE 19 Europe and the European Federation of Journalists, the mission will examine recent attacks on journalists, challenges with media ownership transparency, and legal threats, including SLAPPs. This follows after the reports of 11 alerts involving media and 752 active lawsuits against journalists, with a notable recent physical attack. The mission will review these issues with journalists, media organizations, and officials to produce a report with recommendations to improve press freedom and align with international standards.
