The CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) has urged all development stakeholders to take a stand against the US government’s suspension of foreign aid, calling it a serious escalation in the crisis of multilateralism. The platform condemns similar past US actions, including withdrawals from international agreements such as the Paris Agreement, WHO, and UN Tax Treaty negotiations, warning that these moves undermine global cooperation and international human rights standards. CPDE stresses that official development assistance (ODA) remains vital for global development and warns that halting aid jeopardizes years of progress in human rights, governance, and the SDGs. It calls for strategic partner engagement, alternative funding mechanisms, and stronger multilateral cooperation to mitigate the fallout.
