Anti-government protests turned into violence on the 56th day in Bulgaria. On this occasion, more than 50 people have been hurt, while almost 100 of them have been arrested. The police guarded the Bulgarian parliament weathered smoke bombs, firecrackers, and stones. Thousands of citizens have been calling every day in the streets on the Bulgarian Prime Minister and prosecutor to resign over rampant high-level corruption that has weakened state institutions and benefited powerful tycoons. In a statement, CoE called on the Bulgarian authorities to effectively investigate all reported attacks against journalists and punish the police officers responsible for such unacceptable behavior and to provide police officers with clear instructions to respect press freedom, and allow journalists and media professionals to report on the demonstrations safely.
