For the first time since measurement began, human development – the combined measure of the world’s education, health, and living standards – is on course to decline in 2020. The pandemic is hitting all human development dimensions in all countries. Governments and societies face unprecedented policy, regulatory, and fiscal choices as they act to save lives and set a sustainable future course. The philanthropic reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic has been remarkable in coordinating grantmaking from individuals, foundations, and corporations to facilitate the crisis response.
